CAMBRIDGE, MA, U.S.A. - On April 4th, Initiative: Eau competed in the CleanAcwa Water Ideathon held at Harvard Law School as part of the 2015 Harvard African Development Conference. The Ideathon brought teams from across the country to present innovations, both technical and nontechnical, geared towards addressing the global water and sanitation crises.
The Initiative: Eau team presented WASHMobile, I:Eau's water quality data collection and dissemination pipeline via SMS that has been developed during these past few months. Other proposals ranged from novel desalination techniques to waste collection and distribution.
Following a series of presentations and an intense question and answer session, the panel of distinguished judges selected WASHMobile as the ideathon's winner! The team will be traveling to Accra, Ghana in November to present the system at the CleanAcwa Clean Water Summit. When asked about the accomplishment, Rather said, "The clean water ideathon forced us to not only consider the ways in which the Water Crisis affects Ghana, but also how Ghana impacts the Water Crisis. It was in the latter that we truly found our solution." Be sure to check this page often and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date about the trip.
